James is not overly romantic, like Jamaica’s Couples resorts, nor is it downright raucous, like the hard-partying Iberostar Rose Hall Beach. For comparison, the Secrets Wild Orchid is more contemporary and puts guests closer to restaurants, though generally a bit pricier. Attractive suites are outfitted with whirlpool tubs, terraces, and iPhone docks, plus swim-up rooms are available. The “Unlimited Luxury” all-inclusive package covers all meals and drinks, including top-shelf liquor, Wi-Fi, and 24-hour room service. Outdoor pools are lovely, though the nicest one is reserved for Preferred Club guests, who also receive access to an exclusive lounge and upgraded amenities. He was supposed to escort me to my room with my bags, but then he saw a couple getting their bags at the same time, so he switched gears and told me he'd meet me at my room with my bag later, and pointed in a vague direction to where I could find my room. Then I had to go back to the bellman for my bag. My room was finally ready around 5:20 p.m. Someone finally did come over to help them, but the manager who'd told them he would make everything right couldn't be bothered to show up despite telling them he would be there to meet them. One of the women actually started crying in frustration. They said their room was disgusting with broken fixtures, peeling paint and other issues. ![]() They told me they'd been trying to get a new room for five days with constant runaround. It did give me time to hear the horrific story of a couple of British tourists who'd booked a two-week stay at Secrets. and was told my room wasn't ready, but I should wait in the lobby. I took a walk around the property, came back at 4:35 p.m. when my room would be ready and then sent to another line to get $200 in "coupons" for the resort and a hard sell on add-ons. and waited in one line for the bellmen, then another to reach a check-in desk, where I was told I should come back at 4:20 p.m. I purposely arrived late since the listed check-in time is 3 p.m. He didn't seem surprised to see the bug at all which made me think this wasn't an isolated incident.Ĭheck-in at the resort was also painful.
